Local capacity for peace

We belief that peace is more than the absence of war. Peace encompasses all aspects of the good society that we might envisage for ourselves: universal right, economic well-being, ecological balance etc. Peace is a process, a many sided process, never-ending struggle to give people the possibility to meet their basic needs and to transform violence. Communities are often excluded from peace by a range of economic, political and social factors.
APRED-RGL is strengthening local capacities for peace and development. We have formed and trained 30 local groups (CPDs) in Rwanda, RD Congo and Burundi that are analysing and mediating in community conflicts and conduct community development activities. We also support cross-border trade associations , youth peace clubs and use forum theatre to enhance dialogue on non-violence and peace.
